Dorset County Museum in Dorchester is fundraising for an exciting new development project in Dorchester. They plan to build a Collections Discovery Centre directly behind the Museum building in High West Street which will be used to provide greater access to the Museum’s huge collection of artefacts.
As part of the fundraising project, a new competition has been launched to find a design to help promote the project. The chosen design will also be printed onto items to be sold in the Museum shop to raise funds for the appeal.
David Taylor, the fundraising leader at the Museum said, “We would love someone to come up with a design that sums up everything the museum stands for – its fantastic building and the artefacts which tell the story of the archaeology, geology and natural history of Dorset.”
Jon Murden, Director of Dorset County Museum said, “The project for our new Collections Discovery Centre is now fully underway and we are doing everything we can to make it a success. The new Centre will enable people to have much greater access to our collections which are so important to the cultural heritage of Dorset.”
The competition is open to students in local schools and colleges as well as to individuals. Anyone interested in taking part can pick up an entry form from the Museum – the closing date for entries is Friday 4th July 2014.
The competition will be judged on Tuesday 22nd July by The Lady Fellowes of West Stafford.
